洪启熏率军多次进攻全州，都被东学党打败。朝鲜政府看到自己无力镇压起义军，便决定乞求清政府派兵助剿。
这次东学党比历史上的更为强大，袁世凯虽然也得了几千精兵，但绝不可能跟东学党拼消耗，所以战局又开始对东学党有利起来。朝鲜政府向清朝求援是必然的事情，赵刚只是好奇这次会不会还是叶志超带队，然后再上演一溃千里的丑剧。
既然有些事情提前发生了，那很有可能会带来一连串的连锁反应，历史不再是赵刚记忆中的历史，一切都需要赵刚自己做出选择。
赵刚在书房踱了几步，先将梦中的心得记了下来，字孙后代还要靠这块宝地吃饭可不能现在就糟蹋了。
因为赵刚的这个梦，北大荒避免了过度开发，五月中旬，第一批七万朝鲜人在上面开荒，当年就开荒一百七十万亩，收获粮食十几万吨，在1894到1904十年间，每年新开荒面积都在一百多万亩。到了1904年之后，由于农田保护条例的实施，停止开荒，此时北大荒已经拥有良田1800万亩，而且实行免耕，套种，休耕等保护作用，粮食产量稳步增长，成为最重要的粮仓。

She went once with Jo; but the old gentleman, not being aware of her infirmity, stared at her so hard from under his heavy eyebrows, and said `Hey!' so loud, that he frightened her so much her `feet chattered on the floor', she told her mother
